ANNUAL CONCERT

We bring choreographers who are shaping the world of contemporary dance into an intense art-making process with our young dancers. Our performances break down ethnic, gender, and age stereotypes about who can inspire, create, perform, and contribute to the evolution of contemporary dance.

PERFORMANCE VIDEOS

Throughout the year, our students have performance opportunities that include Annual Concert, Inside the Studio, and Co-Creation Lab.

Rehearsals, dance-making, and performances teach discipline, collaboration, commitment, and achievement through hard work.

ARTISTIC PARTNERS

Students at The Wooden Floor are given the opportunity to collaborate with some of the top names in the contemporary dance world, in addition to world-class designers and artists, in order to create new and adventuresome dance works.

RESIDENCIES

When our students are given opportunities to work with renowned choreographers and co-create new dance pieces with their own background and identity, this builds confidence within themselves—students know who they are and what they say matters.

WHY OUR APPROACH TO DANCE?

We are often asked why we choose our approach to dance. It is a commitment to a dance approach that values exploration, discovery, and innovation, which leads to the success of our students in school and in life.

HECTOR ’19

“When I’m on stage, time stops. It feels great. I know I am going to be the art form. I am the painting or exhibit when you go into the museum. I get to show the world what I’ve got.”

What are Dance Free Weeks?

Dance Free Weeks provides three week-long dance training programs—free of charge—in Santa Ana public schools. Launched in effort to bring dance into their lives, students are given access to the arts while funding continues to get further cut from school programs.

How has it benefited students?

Since 1985, over 85,000 students have benefited from Dance Free Weeks. Teachers and administrators consistently give praise for our instructors’ enthusiasm, positive communication, and the motivation they foster within students.

How can my school have Dance Free Weeks?

If you are a teacher or administrator and would like to request a Dance Free Week at your school, please contact Artistic Director Jennifer Bassage Bonfil here.
